July sizzles at the Village House

July 12th, 2010

School’s out and we have already hosted several Storyland packages for families here, with lots of fun in the pool during the recent hot weather.

Erin, Megan and Rebecca host the Village House lemonade stand on July 4th

Friends old and new came to visit for July 4th weekend and the kids held a lemonade stand to help quench the thirst of passers by.

The wonderful summer weather we have been having has meant that our four legged friends have been enjoying doggy dips in the river right behind us at the inn and also at Diana Baths nearby.  Doggy ice cream topped with bones available at ‘Trails End’ cafe in Bartlett and also at Glen Ledge Corner store make a great afternoon treat.

During the long summer evenings our chiminea and firepit have been popular with guests for making s’mores.

Summer at the Village House

June 10th, 2010

John's BBQ Meat Fest Season Begins

The outdoor pool is open and  Rebecca has been using it to practice for her role in the local Saco Valley Swim Team.    A sign of the warm weather has been the increasing number of barbecues we have already hosted as well as those delicious s’mores by the fire pit!

We are pleased to welcome some of our regular guests, who have recently bought property in the village as well as dear friends from England, ‘the Stokes family’, who have re-located to Jackson, so we are now neighbors.

Sally has been voted in on the Board of the Jackson Historical Society, based in the Old Town Hall on Black Mountain Road, and she is hoping to uncover more of the history and mystery surrounding the Village House in days gone by to share with our visitors.

The Historical Society is a great place to visit with an impressive museum and art gallery.  It is  also the home of the newly formed ‘River Arts Gallery’, exhibiting work by local artists.  Next week will see the opening  reception for the David Baker Retrospective art show  on Friday, June 18th from 7.00 to 9.00 p.m.   Baker was a Jackson artist with a unique sense of wonder of life which is reflected in his work.  The exhibition will be open on Saturdays & Sundays, from June the 19th to July 4th from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Catch the show if you are staying with us and for more information about River Arts Gallery at the Jackson Historical Society, please visit www.riverartsgallery.com.

Don’t forget to check out some of our great summer packages including Moose Spotting Tours, Zipwire and Gondola Rides at Wildcat Mountain, White Water Rafting Excursions, Horseback Riding at Black Mountain, and not forgetting Mount Washington Valley’s Bike Week coming up soon!

All the best for the summer!

Summer will soon be here

May 21st, 2010

The Bride and the Bridesmaids enjoy a good joke!

Having travelled safely back from the UK, managing to avoid the ash cloud from Iceland’s volcano, we are pleased to announce that the Village House in Jackson is now open for our Spring/Summer seasons.  Take a look at some of our action packed packages over the coming months including horseback riding, Storyland fun, midweek golf and cycling.

Whilst in the UK we visited many friends and family as well as several castles and places of interest, but the main reason behind our recent trip was for Rebecca’s role as a bridesmaid at her Aunty Nicky and Uncle Brett’s wedding.  The weather was perfect and the day was a great success!  Even Clarke (Jack’s cousin) had a great time!

We now look forward to greeting friends old and new as the warmer weather is here at last.  The pool is open, the chiminea is stocked with wood and the barbecue is ready.  Looking forward to G&Ts on the terrace.

Happy summer from

Sally, John and Rebecca

Here comes the sun!

April 8th, 2010

Easter Sunday on the beach in Camden, Maine

Rebecca and Jack take a dip in the sea in Camden, Maine!

We have seen some higher temperatures and warmer weather up here in the White Mountains.

In fact, Easter Sunday was so warm and sunny that we decided to take a trip over to Camden, Maine for the day, where young Rebecca even ventured into the sea for a dip, closely followed by Jack!

Please note that the Village House will be closed for mud season from the 2oth April to the 19th May.  The inn will be open for the summer from the 20th May in readiness for Memorial weekend.

Best wishes from us all at the Village House, Sally, John and Rebecca

Peel off some layers, get a tan, make the most of Spring Skiing

March 19th, 2010

As winter turns to Spring we have had some great fun in the sun on the Mountains up here in Jackson.  Rebecca enjoyed a wicked ski day on Attitash Mountain recently and we spent St Patrick’s Day at Wildcat.  Looking forward to a few more weeks on the mountains before the end of the season.  Hope to see you there.
